End of the week

We have made it through the end of the week. This week we have been focusing on writing five-paragraph essays.  The topic assigned is “My favorite Thanksgiving tradition,” and it is a how-to or process essay.  I am looking for each student to write an essay teaching me how to do or make his favorite Thanksgiving tradition.  This may be a food item, craft, or activity that the family is involved in together.  I hope to put the revised essays into a booklet for the students to give their parents for Christmas.

Students will also complete a powerpoint highlighting elements of the essay.  They will present these on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Tuesday –

Yesterday, we discussed substituting powerful, precise verbs for overused verbs.

Today, we continued our discussion of verbs: linking vs. action; transitive vs. intransitive, and helping (or auxiliary). Using jigsaw and small groups, we completed the review worksheets for verbs.

Tomorrow, we will have a review game, and Thursday, there will be a quiz for all classes on verbs.
