Update – 2nd 9 weeks

I haven’t updated my assignments in over a week; and since I have recently discovered that the occasional student actually checks the blog, I shall endeavor to update it more often. Tomorrow, all students were assigned to write a five paragraph rough draft, OR a very detailed graphic organizer with each paragraph outlined by topic and detail. We will be going into the media center tomorrow to type these, so I suggest they are ready to go or you will find you have homework again tomorrow evening. This week we are beginning our study of Edgar Allan Poe, and we will read two of his works, “The Raven” and “The Cask of Amontillado.” Halloween is a great time to read Poe since many of his stories deal with mysterious, creepy acts. We’ll be focusing on literary terms such as theme, symbol, figurative language, etc. After Poe, I think we’ll dive into another favorite creepy writer (his work, not him necessarily) Stephen King. We’ll read our first work in the drama genre, a screenplay called “Sorry, Right Number.” Fun times ahead! After that we’ll start a new novel. Honors classes will have a choice of books – TBA. We’ll also write a how-to essay in November. Now that you know what to expect, let’s forge ahead and set higher goals for the second 9 weeks!

End of another week

It’s the end of another week, and we have been hitting verbs hard.  (That’s present perfect continuous tense).  No, we haven’t talked about that one.  We have been covering the principal parts of verbs, and using helping verbs to form the progressive and perfect tenses.  In addition we began a short story Wednesday called, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell.  We will be continuing our study of verbs through next week, focusing on subject-verb agreement next week.

We’ll have a test at the end of verbs and it will also cover literary terms and figurative language.  Or I may break up the tests into two.  I’ll let you know.

Monday is a student holiday; but alas, I will be here for teacher in-service.  Enjoy another long weekend, but come back ready to work!!

Week Seven

We have lots of events coming up at CFA, but I’ll start with academics.  In English classes, we are finishing the novel We Beat the Street by Sharon Draper and the Three Doctors.  Honors classes completed the book today, and regular classes will finish tomorrow.  All classes have a final assessment due on Wednesday Oct. 3.  This is the Choice Board assessment.  A copy can be found on the class website:  www.landreau.weebly.com.  Click on the project tab.  We’ll be working on verbs the rest of the week, as well as setting up google accounts and going to the media center on Friday.

Next week we are off on Monday and Tuesday for Fall Break – Yea!

Thursday, October 11 is Parenting Day.  There are two sessions (one morning and one afternoon) – Let us know if you will be attending.

Thursday, Oct. 11 is also our Homecoming Block Party from 5:00-7:00 at CFA.  We will have music, games, and fun.  It is free, but concessions will be available for purchase.  Hope to see many of you there.
