Crazy Day

Because of anticipated bad weather, school dismissed early today, with most after-school activities cancelled.

All of my English classes have Poetry Packets due tomorow. Honors classes due at the beginning of class; regular classes will have an opportunity to complete assignments during class on Friday.  We will begin watching Dead Poet’s Society tomorrow or Monday. Students will have a viewing guide to complete.  We will also work more on the use of prepositional phrases in sentences.  We will have a test next Thursday on poetry terms, vocabulary, and prepositions.

I hope to post some of the poems online or publish in a book – I have been so impressed with the quality of poems received!

2 weeks down

We are entering our third full week of school.  This week we began our Poetry Unit.  The first five assignments were due on Friday:  Cover page, Poetic elements, Poetry dictionary, “Dear Mama” questions, tribute poems.  This week we will be completing additional poetry assignments.

Honors classes will begin reading The Miracle Worker soon.  We will also being Romeo and Juliet in a few weeks.

Get ready for a busy semester!

Thursday

Today’s  bell ringer assignment was to think about your Christmas Break and complete 3/2/1:

  • 3 things you did or received
  • 2 things you did for someone else or gave someone else
  • 1 thing you are thankful for from 2011

We discussed grades, and the new year.  Everyone is even again – work now to improve your grades and GPA.

Graded Assignment – Think of the theme, New Year: new chapter!  Consider that your life is like a book.  2012 is a new chapter.  Write a title for what you want to do, achieve, learn, focus on this year.

Get ready to dive into Grammar tomorrow!

We’re Back

Teachers report back today for in-service activities.  Get ready to work second semester.  Report cards will be distributed from 1st semester soon, but my grades are already posted, so check STI.

Students who had a combined average of 59 or below will not receive credit for 1st semester work.   You will have to earn the 1/2 credit in Credit Recovery or by retaking the entire semester.  Information will be given to students who need to repeat part or all of the 1st semester.

I’m looking forward to a great 2012.  We’ll be covering Shakepeare and Romeo and Juliet, Poetry, More writing assignments, More Grammar, To Kill a Mockingbird, and more.
