Wednesday Work

We have been working on noun types (concrete/abstract, collective, possessive, proper/common, and singular/plural) in class.  Today we also took notes on functions of nouns in sentences (subjects, direct objects, predicate nouns, object of preposition, and indirect objects).  We will be working on these grammar activities through next week.  We have our first grammar test next Wednesday.

Yesterday, we worked together on peer reviews of our paragraphs that were due on Monday (see prompts).  Today the revisions of those paragraphs were due, and I am working on grading those.

No homework tonight – we had Parents on Board night.  So excited to meet so many of you!!!

Tomorrow we begin Personal Narrative writing and continue with noun practice.

Coming On Monday, Aug. 27th

Monday we also begin our grammar review with nouns.  We’ll be identifying common/proper; concrete/abstract; possessive; collective; singular/plural.  Coming soon- Function of nouns in sentences and writing personal narratives.

1st week activities

We made it through the first two days – congratulations!  Today honors classes will take the summer reading test.  Tomorrow all classes will complete the benchmark assessment for 2012-2013.

Yesterday, my classes voted on unique names: 1st period- Team Chucks; 2nd period – Triple L (Lizard Lick Learning); 3rd period- Team Turn It Up; 4th period – Paranormals.  6th period – we didn’t have time to vote yesterday, but we’ll get to that today.

Today we will be reviewing rules and procedures through a scavenger hunt.  Each team will complete a written sheet and follow the clues until you return to class.  Good luck!

Up head for Friday – complete written benchmark assessment, and learn about paragraph writing.

1st Day Back

ImageNo First Day Blues this year:  I was ready for new students to arrive.  Today is Monday, and we are reviewing rules and procedures for the next two days.  Please remember to bring in a picture for tomororw (or I will take one) and your class contract is due on Friday (or any day before then).

Check the website and blog daily for updates.  Let’s travel to our goal of 100% passage!

And so it begins…

Another year ahead, and I always begin with great expectations.  Hopefully, they will carry through next May.  I’m looking forward to a new year with a new theme:  Education Can Take You Anywhere!  Teachers report today, and students’ first day is August 20th.  I look foward to meeting my new “family members.”  Enjoy your last two weeks!
