3rd nine weeks is winding down

We are quickly approaching the 3/4 mark for freshman year 2011-2012.   My English classes are finishing our study of William Shakespeare and Romeo and Juliet.  We are on the last act of the play, and are working on choice boards for the assessment.  All choice boards are due no later than March 5, 2012.  You may complete them early and turn them in this week if desired.

Thursday and Friday of this week, you will be watching the 1996 version of the movie Romeo and Juliet.  You will be keeping a graphic organizer of notes so you can respond in writing to the comparison of the movie to the movie, or the movie to the written word.  We will be in the computer lab next week to type these essays into Criterion. 

Following that, we will work on finishing the eight parts of speech with conjunctions and interjections.  Then we’ll begin reading To Kill a Mockingbird.  Get ready for a push to the finish line!

Thursday

Romeo, Romeo, Where for art thou, Romeo?

We are on Act II of Shakespeare’s play.  We have had two assignments due this week.  Check the website for assignment sheets.  We will have a quiz on Act I and part of Act II tomorrow.

We may have another quiz next week, but the final assessment will be a choice board.  Honors classes will have four items to complete; regular English classes will have three.  Enjoy!

Friday

The end of another week of school has arrived.  2nd and 3rd periods compare and contrast essays are due on Tuesday.  1st, 5th, and 6th essays are due on Monday, Feb. 6th.  Use your character chart to write a 3-5 paragraph essay on two characters from Dead Poets Society

1st period test will be on Tuesday, with all other periods testing  Monday on prepositions, and vocabulary words, plus some poetry terms.  Complete the word search and crossword puzzle for review and for extra credit on the test. 

Progress reports come out next week: we are halfway through the third nine weeks.  We will be learning about Shakespeare and beginning Romeo and Juliet next week.
